About the artistĀ

I'm a San Diego-based mixed media artist working with paint and hand embroidery to explore the fragility of ocean coral and marine ecosystems. My work grew out of nearly thirty years of diving, beginning with a moment witnessing coral bleaching in the Coral Sea that continues to shape everything I make.

Ā

My practice began with painting and printmaking at San Diego State University, where working across two disciplines taught me to think in opposites — light and shadow, pressure and release, intention and accident. That cross-media foundation continues to shape how I work today.
Ā

Paint moves with immediacy while stitch work demands patience. Embroidery also carries a deep history as women's work — a form of labor and storytelling that has long been undervalued. Each stitch honors the subject matter while reframing it within a contemporary visual language.

Ā

Documenting the ocean and my surroundings as I experience them is deeply rewarding, and I've come to rely on something unexpected: when I'm faced with a challenge, making art often leads me to solutions I wouldn't have found otherwise.

My work has been shown at Greenly Art Space in San Pedro (Cultivating Compassion, 2026), the Japanese Friendship Garden & Museum in San Diego (Summer Exhibit, 2025), and Greenly Art Space in Signal Hill (SoCalATA Annual Exhibit, 2017). I'm currently seeking new gallery partnerships and exhibition opportunities to bring this work to a wider audience.
