Art Therapy

As an art therapist with the American Association of Art Therapists,
I understand the positive impact of art making and its ability to assist with processing the world around us.
The thesis research I conducted as part of my Master of Arts program, focused on how making art impacts learning, specifically the connection between art and its ability to improving reading comprehension and literacy levels.
Today I lead art therapy groups at BrightQuest San Diego while offering individual art counseling sessions to children experiencing parent loss at an hourly rate of $75.00.
Additionally, I am the California state delegate for AATA while developing workshops and art therapy programs for schools, museums and community events.

Grief clubs take place at assisted living facilties and use art making to assist residents with managing grief related to the death of a loved one or another significant loss such as a pet,
a home, or a career.
Group members use simple stitch work to assemble personal materials into a fabric collage. Grief clubs typically takes place for an hour a week over the span of 4-6 weeks in a community space at your facility.

The Grief Club curriculum can be part of your existing activities schedule or a stand alone program and led by program creator Andrea Cowan or facilitated by a staff member trained in the technique.
